Weapons training is an essential part of Tai Chi. Training with weapons allows each student to  develop and increase the concepts established in the empty-handed forms that they have previously learnt, raising them to higher levels of skill and understanding. The most famous Tai Chi weapon  is the straight double-edged sword (“gim” in Cantonese and “jian” in Mandarin) The straight sword is one of the five primary weapons of tai-chi along with the Broadsword- Staff-  Spear and Walking stick/ Cain

Like the Yang 24 step form, the 32 step straight sword form was created to make straight sword easier to teach to modern students. Today, the 32 step straight sword is the most widely practiced Tai Chi sword form and a great way to be introduced to the basics of sword training
